somatics is a form of therapy that relies on the body's senses. this is reflected in tanuki man experiencing tomato's senses for analytical purposes. the title is also a pun on the name of the game "soma", which is about a lot of things including transferring the mind into a machine. unlike in soma, in my story, a true transfer as opposed to a copy is actually possible, but the question is if it can be done in time.
i guess the type of friendship between tanuki and tomato is basically siblinghood? that fits with the vibe that tin can is sort of a large found family.
this story is set in the middle of zero 3's events. the ciel system has been completed, with its data being disseminated to many groups. if you don't know what that means, basically, a solution to an energy crisis was found. that's actually the lotus machine hologram. ciel is commonly associated with images of glowing lotuses. that's the form her solution takes.
so, uh, yeah. whether or not tomato is actively aware of ciel's exploits is ambiguous, but i leave the door open to it via the hope tomato feels lookin at the hologram.
tanuki man has bad distress tolerance when it comes to death. is he going to successfully save tomato and give her an immortal robotic body? well, i mean, i hope so? but if you think it would be a better story if he didn't, you can decide that he failed and had to deal with it.
