Prototypes is a series of short stories designed to help build up ideas for a setting I want to use for my future game projects. Unlike my prior anthology, I do not have a fixed length in mind, nor a specific set of narrative goals I need to reach to consider the work "complete". Additionally, I am open to featuring guest writers, because realistically, my longterm goals, while helmed by my intent, are simply not going to materialize without the talents of others. So I don't mind opening the gates as early as possible. The only parameters for this work is that entries should generally be set between 2000 and spring 2020.
Those familiar with my earlier works- particularly my prior anthology- may be able to recognize ideas from it. I hope it's rewarding to notice those connections, but I want to be clear- Prototypes is explicitly intended to require zero context. I will never call back to something from a prior body of work, and the setting of Prototypes and the media that follows on from it is meant to be self contained. I will not be writing any contextual documents to go along with this work. In the BNW Coda, I viewed those as a necessity. They served to replicate the discussion chats that helped form the setting of BNW, and they were also handy for contextualizing things for outside readers and explaining my headspace and intentions with each chapter.
I sincerely hope this work is more accessible. The Coda was something I absolutely needed to make and I feel better for having seen it through, but I want something that feels less weird to show off. Don't think there's much more to say. Enjoy.
